Industrial Design Department

Industrial Design Department has 17 full-time teachers, 2 professors, 4 associate professors, and 6 doctors (including PHD candidates). Some teachers have overseas education backgrounds. After years of construction, it has gradually formed major directions of mechanical equipment design, cultural and creative product design, and smart electrical appliances design, information and interaction design.

Industrial Design Department has established a long-term and stable "school-enterprise cooperation" relationship with dozens of companies.The school-local site cooperation has jointly built Ma'anshan Industrial Design Center and Industrial Technology research Institute Industrial Design Center, using design innovation as a method to serve the country, local economy and social innovation development. In the meantime, Industrial Design Department has systematically carried out design competition projects teaching, which has taken the organizer role of National College Student Industrial Design Competition (Anhui Division) since 2012.

In the past three years, Industrial Design Department has won more than 400 international and domestic design competition awards including IF Award, China Design Red Star Award, Anhui Industrial Design Contest Gold Award, National University Student Industrial Design Competition National Finals Second Prize, and applied for more than 100 patents.

Visual Art Design Department

Visual Art Design Department currently has two undergraduate majors: Visual Communication Design and Digital Media Art Design. Visual Communication Design major is provincial characteristic major (first-class brand major), and Digital Media Art is university's outstanding talent training program. There are 15 teachers in Visual Art and Design Department, including 1 professor and 4 associate professors. The department has gradually established teaching practice platforms such as printing and packaging laboratory, photography and video laboratory, virtual studio, recording studio, two-dimensional animation laboratory, design dedicated computer lab, practical studio, and extra experimental platforms.

Visual Art Design Department instructs students to participate in many design competitions such as Milan Biennale, National College Student Advertising Art Festival Academy Award, National College Student Advertising Art Competition, National College Student 3D Digital Innovation Design Competition, Master Award, National College Student Visual Design Competition, Chinese College Student Original Animation Competition, China International Micro Film Festival, China-ASEAN University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance College Student Public Service Advertisement Creative Contest, and have achieved many good results.

Public Environmental Art Design Department

Public Environmental Art Design Department was established in 2013, with a major in environmental design. In the past 6 years of running, with the background of arts and design discipline, taking advantages of engineering discipline of the university, it gradually formed an integrated “architecture-landscape-indoor” teaching system.The two main curriculum systems of environmental design and public art are set up to cultivate environmental design talents with professional skills and humanistic background. There are 7 professional laboratories in the department, namely, ceramic art laboratory, metal art laboratory, wood carving laboratory, clay sculpture laboratory, lacquer art studio, material laboratory and lighting laboratory. 10 stable school-enterprise cooperation bases have been established. There are 14 teachers, including 4 associate professors, 8 lecturers, 2 teaching assistants, and 1 PhD candidate. The formation of three professional faculty groups of interior design, landscape design, and public art can effectively solve various problems encountered in the process of talent training, and provide guarantee for the training of applied environmental design professionals.

Environmental design major is based in Anhui Province, radiates across the country, and is oriented to the cultivation of applied environmental design talents, serving the development of the region from a "manufacturing economy" to a "creative economy" and "cultural and creative industries". Environmental design students have won 23 awards in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions in the past three years, including 1 international and 5 national competition awards. Undergraduate students have participated in various design competitions and won 143 awards, including 18 international awards, 72 national awards, and 30 provincial awards. The main divisions of graduate employment are in Wanjiang and Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.The initial employment rate of graduates has reached an average of 86.6% in the past three years, and the professional counterpart rate has reached 95.4%, providing qualified talents for major design companies, real estate companies, decoration companies, landscape companies and government planning and design institutes.

Aesthetic Education Department

Anhui University of Technology has a long tradition of art education. The school established chorus, pipe band and drama club and other student groups from the initial time. In October 1985, the Music Teaching and Research Section were established. Since 1998, student symphony orchestra, folk orchestra, choir, drama troupe and dance troupe have been rebuilt or established successively.

At present, there are many full-time teachers in the college student art education teaching and research section, who are responsible for the teaching of all the niversity's music and art general courses, and undertake the rehearsal, performance, guidance and other activities of the four art-sub groups.

Student Folk Orchestra successively won the third prize of National College Student Art Performance in 2012, and the first prize of Anhui Province University Student Art Performance;the Student Chorus received the second prize of 2016 Jiangnan Flower "Chorus Festival" in Ma'anshan City; first prize in the 5th Anhui Province First prize in the art performance of college students; Chorus Performance Award in 2019 Poly Theater Ma'anshan City "Singing the Motherland". A number of art sub-groups have repeatedly won awards for provincial and municipal art performances.

Aesthetic Education Departmenthas successively set up more than 40 art-related elective courses, involving art, music, calligraphy, Chinese painting and other related art categories. It has participated in the "Elegant Art on Campus" series of activities for many times, organically combined the first and second classrooms of art education. The department has hosted the New Year Concert every year, funded the Akabella Vocal Chorus Club, Original Music Arrangement Club, Folk Music Club, Western Chamber Music Club and other characteristic art clubs with the advancement of the school art club curriculum reform. Among them, the Original Music Arrangement Club created original Anhui University of Technology Admissions Promotion Songs "AHUT Waiting for You" and a series of official online publications with dozens original works. Five academy students settled in NetEase Cloud Music as independent musicians. Apart form the annual New Year concert; students are organized to carry out art salon concerts in the mid-term of each semester, which are open to all students at school. It not only provides a practical platform for students with artistic expertise, but also provides artistic edification to other students in university. The response was strong among teachers and students, forming a good cultural brand.

Experimental Center

The experimental center was established in 2013, including rapid prototyping lab, surface treatment lab, wood processing lab, ceramic art lab, screen printing lab, metal and casting lab, recording studios, two-dimensional animation lab, music halls, chorus rehearsal hall, dance rehearsal hall, and extra 26 professional labs. After years’ construction, especially during “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, with the support of all levels of university departments and the care of academy leaders, it has gradually built the platform that meet the teaching and reaching requirements of industrial design, digital media, environmental art design, college students public art.
