September 2013, based on the strategic layout of discipline construction, Academy of Arts and Design was founded based on Industrial Design Department, Arts Design Department under School of Mechanical Engineering and Literature and Art Department (art) under School of Grammar and Law. Currently, the academy has been running for more than 6 years. It is key period for the academy to build a platform, form disciplines, and strengthen the foundation. With the strong support from the university，Party and government administration of the academy has guided all the faculty and staff to actively explore the development path of the academy, working together, pioneering and innovating. It has made remarkable achievements remarkable results in all kinds of development, and successfully completed the main goals and tasks initially determined by the academy, laying a solid foundation for the development of the "14th Five-Year Plan".

The main body of preliminary discipline construction of Academy of Arts and Design is based on undergraduate majors and undergraduate teaching. After the establishment of the academy, it further improved the enrollment and training of independent second-level master degree program in mechanical engineering industrial design. In 2014, the academy wasapprovedwith master degree program of industrial design engineering (facing six majors). In addition, the academy was successful approved with Master’sdegree in first degree in 2015.The school has achieved a leap from undergraduate cultivating to postgraduate cultivating, and made breakthroughs in the level of academy running, jumping to a new platform.

In accordance with the idea of "consolidating direction and creating characteristics", the academy continuously strengthened the construction of disciplines, improved the layout of disciplines, strengthened the advantages of disciplines and specialties, and highlighted the characteristics of disciplines.Three new undergraduate majors have been added, and coordinated development system among the majors has been primarily formed. Visual communication design major is the provincial characteristic major, and industrial design major is the provincial outstanding talent training program (excellent engineer) and the provincial comprehensive reform trial major.

The academy currently has 3 master's programs and 6 undergraduate majors.The number of full-time students has increased from less than 500 in the initial establishment of the academy in 2013 to more than 1,000 in 2020; and a new leap in self-cultivation of graduate students has been achieved, with 40 graduate students in school.

The scale of the faculty of the academy is constantly expanding. There are 67 faculty members. The number of lecturers with associate professor title and above increased from 5 in 2013 to 16 in 2020. Lecturers with master's degree or above consist for more than 90%, with 2 doctors, and 5 in PHD candidates, and 4 external professors.The faculty is full of vigor, hard working, strong sense of responsibility, and good cohesion.
